Did you guys know that we are TECHNICALLY still alive? D: Life just got hectic and crazy right after AC, so we had no choice but to fall silent over here. However, things are calming down and we are steadily getting back to work on projects and things. Here's proof!

There are currently five small orders left that still need to be completed, as well as the fullsuit that will go along with this possum head, and then our list will be completely clear. We'll have more updates, WIP images, and commission info soon after we finish a few more things and have some stuff to show you all.

Hope everyone is well and you guys are enjoying the cooler weather! :D

I think just about all of you have seen this already. But I'm reposting it here for our personal LJ's records, so feel free to pass this entry up if you've seen it already. There's nothing new! c:

Special thanks goes out to Lothaekor for organizing our shoot (and us) and for taking such fantastic pictures. And thank you to those of you who offered feedback and support while this suit was being built. I know I wanted to tear my hair out a few times during the process, so it was nice to have you guys reassure me, haha.

On a business note, we'll be selling a lot of furs, fursuit making supplies, and costume pieces over the course of the next month. We need to clean out our closets! I think we have six heads that need new homes, including all three previous Quaylak versions. D: We'll announce everything on [info]fursuitauctions when we've got everything organized, and most likely, the sale will be through here.

Quick WIP shot I took last night to see how everything looked on camera. Her eyelids/eye lashes are not attached, hence why they look "raised." I'll be attaching her neck once we get to the hotel, as I need to have her bodysuit so I can line up the colors correctly (it was shipped last Saturday and is currently chilling at the hotel waiting on us). Right now, I'd say she's 85% finished. She still needs her facial markings and a few spots airbrushed on, as well as a bit of blending. Everything else is done. Phew.

I'm absolutely exhausted and have not slept more than 10 hours in three days. This entire costume was extremely challenging and unbelievably time consuming for both of us. I'm crossing my fingers that all of her parts fit well together, as we won't know what she looks like completely assembled until we get there!

This is my last update until we get home. Have a great weekend you guys and looking forward to seeing those of you who will be at AC! c:

After checking out the parade times and trying to see what would be best for everyone, we've decided to stick with meeting in the headless lounge right after the parade and then wandering out to find a good place to take a bunch of pictures. Chances are good that I'll scope out some potential locations for our photoshoot prior to the parade on Saturday, but if you guys have any recommendations or ideas of where we should go, feel free to suggest them when we meet.

The parade is supposed to be from 2pm to 3pm, but sometimes it runs over a bit, so we'll wait around a few minutes for everyone who has told us they want to participate. If the headless lounge is too crowded afterwards, look for us standing around outside somewhere. I'm thinking we'll wait around for everyone 15-20 minutes, just to be sure no one is left out.

I will be wearing my new Quaylak suit and :userjakejynx: will have Jynx with him. Look for a big, bright blue cheetahmonstur with giant feet and a long tail! She shouldn't be hard to miss.

We will be leaving Wednesday night and arriving Thursday morning, which means this will probably be my last update until we return on Monday. If at all possible, I will try and upload a video of Quaylak's finished head later tonight. I haven't had a free second to upload any more WIP pictures, but the final product should be pretty darned adorable, so I want you guys to see. c:

If I don't have time to pop back on, then I hope you all have a safe trip and we will see you there!

PS: If you are attending, be sure to drop by our dealer's den table (F14) and say hi! :D We'll have a revamped bunny partial for sale, a bunch of tails and paws, and will be offering fursuit commissions that can be taken at the con (but finished after). I'll also be taking a limited number of badge and sketch commissions for anyone interested in some art.

x-posted from FA!

I've never spent so much time trying to get a fursuit head to look the way I wanted. Even now--after over 12+ hours of working on JUST sculpting her--I'm not sure how I feel about her or how she'll look in the end. This head truly is 100% different from every other head we've made (even Bubo's), so that's one thing I'm happy about. My goal with our work was to take it in a different direction, branch out, experiment, and don't be afraid of trying something new. These past couple heads have been the result of that!

Those eyes...oh man, I was so nervous and still am about how they're going to look. It took me forever to get them right, and even now, I'm mad that I didn't have the time to fully experiment with the material I'd actually wanted to use for them (plastic mesh). It just didn't look as smooth and transitional as I'd wanted, so I stuck with good ol' buckram. I'm so worried she's going to look cross-eyed or something after she's furred. I get so paranoid about that because the eyes on our suits are the most important feature. D:

At this moment, I'm in the process of cutting out all her fur patterns and am getting ready to sew them up. I'll snap another picture of her after the patterns are sewn and draped on the head, then one of her after she's furred. And maybe one of her bodysuit if we have time! Still a lot to do before AC. :o

PS: I'm sorry my video-taking skills are so sucky, I always forget to turn my camera so it's a wide shot. )X That, and this video was more meant for me and my reference.

HE'S DONE. Finally done! I'll be posting this same thing tomorrow on [info]fursuit, but for now, you guys can enjoy a few pictures of the final suit that weren't shared on FA. :D

Click here to see loads of pictures! )

Last but not least (and this is outside the cut because I think it's sooo important), here's a video of how the wings function and how well the 3D eyes work. Definitely check it out, we put a lot of work into both features!

THIS COSTUME IS FOR SALE! If you are interested, click here to visit the auction!

I want to keep this suit so bad, you guys have no idea. ;_; He is so awesome and was so much work. I can see a LOT of potential for character development. It's not faaaaair.

...I guess I'll just need to finish my monstur instead so I feel better. Photos of her construction coming up next!

So there's been a slight change in plans as far as which suits will be completed in time for AC. The owl will be finished this week, so he'll definitely be available for sale before the convention (or during if he doesn't sell next week). But I believe the border collie is going to be put on hold until after the con, simply because we still have the "Mad Hare" partial to sell from FWA. It'll save time if we take a suit that's already finished and ready for sale, but I have a question for you all.

What can I do to improve the bunny and make him more sellable? Here's a link to some pictures of the suit in question!

I think I've decided that I'd like to make him a new pair of eyes, because to me, they look creepy. [info]jakejynx disagrees, but if he reads as creepy to me, he may read as creepy to potential buyers. So I'd like to replace those. But what else can I do to make him either more unique or just more appealing? Airbrushing? Remove/change out the hair tuft? Add feet to the set (which will increase the cost, so may not be a good idea)?

I can almost guarantee the border collie would sell AT the convention, but I have my doubts about the bunny. It could be because he didn't sell at FWA, so I'm pessimistic, but it's very important that a larger item like that is sold while we're there. Any suggestions/ideas you guys can offer would be great! Just keep in mind that it has to be fairly simple/quick. I don't have time to re-fur it or anything like that. Thanks guys! c:

Believe it or not, there's actually an owl underneath all that fluff! :o

Next step. This time, all the fur pieces are cut out and some are sewn together. I'll need to sew them all together before I can start attaching it to the head! Right now, everything has just been laid on the head and pinned on in a couple places, so don't worry about symmetry. Once it's all glued down, he'll make more sense. That'll be the next picture I upload, hopefully in the next few days.

He's looking good so far I think! Glad to know you guys are excited to see him finished. That's great motivation for me to hurry up, lol. :D

The other day I photoshopped a May and June calendar together so it would fit on one sheet of paper. I wanted calendars that had boxes so I could scribble down notes after printing it out. Now, both [info]jakejynx and I have one and we've both filled it out with everything we need to have done and what days we would like to have them completed by. They're currently hanging up in the work room.

I, for one, like knowing what steps need to be finished by what day in order for me to stay on track and finish everything in time. It's sort of like I've set small mini goals for myself every week that I can achieve rather than me just saying EVERYTHING has to be done by AC. That's a bit too broad/open for me! And so far, my calendar/work schedule has been helping me a lot.

So where are we at now? Well, since I showed you guys that video of the owl a few days ago, I've managed to finish all the sculpting for him and the border collie. I finished making the owl's beak and attached it, which was a lot trickier than I thought it would be, but I do love the effect. I got them both DTD'd last night. Here's a sneak peek! They're both coming along very nicely.

Owl foamwork and DTD images below, plus DTD Collie! )

I cut out all the pieces for the owl so I can sew them up this weekend while we're out of town for Memorial day (we'll be completely out of touch until Monday for anyone who may need to contact us). According to my schedule, the owl needs to be completely finished by next Saturday so we can take pictures and post him up for auction by Sunday night. I want people to have enough time to consider buying him should they want him before AC. Just by the looks of his head, his wings, and his tail, I think he's going to be our best suit yet. Certainly the most challenging!

I'll have more updates and photos next week after we get back and we've made more progress. For those of you who celebrate it, have a great holiday weekend!
